World’s top animations to compete in Tehran

Some of the world’s top animations to take part in 11th Tehran International Animation Festival.

The Iranian capital is set to host some of the world’s top animations in various competitions for the 11th Tehran International Animation Festival (TIAF) being held from March 3-7, 2019.

Among the participants in this year’s event are many familiar animations that have been awarded at some of the world’s most prominent film festivals such as Cannes, Annecy, Hiroshima, and Zagreb; along with animations that have been nominated for the 2019 Oscars.

The list includes:

‘This Magnificent Cake!’ directed by Marc James Roels and Emma De Swaef (France, Belgium, and Netherlands)

‘Augur’ directed by David Doutel and Vasco Sá (Portugal)

‘Inanimate’ directed by Lucia Bulgheroni (UK)

‘Weekends’ directed by Trevor Jimenez (US)

‘Late Afternoon’ directed by Louise Bagnall (Ireland)

‘Grandpa Walrus’ directed by Lucrèce Andreae (France)

‘Facing It’ directed by Sam Gainsborough representing (UK)

‘Trump Bites’ and ‘The Modern Lives’ directed by Bill Plympton (UK)

The 11th TIAF will be held from March 3-7, 2019 at the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children & Young Adults in Tehran.

According to TIAF’s website, the festival’s objectives are “Creating an appropriate grounds for exchange of ideas, thoughts, and experiences by purposeful collection and presentation of artworks; spotting potentials and encouraging new comers to create and innovate; and developing abilities by adopting new attitudes and techniques in order to reach a higher quality.”

The festival will be divided into four sections: competition, out of competition, special screening, and panorama.
